A cost-benefit analysis: bolu mountain tunnel project example
This thesis analyzes the concepts and theories related to the cost – benefit analysis. The definition of cost – benefit analysis, its historical perspective and economic concepts of cost – benefit analysis is introduced. The applications of cost – benefit analysis to transportation projects and the literature related to this concept is also reviewed. An empirical research to assess the feasibility of Bolu Mountain Tunnel project by using cost – benefit analysis is also conducted. The costs related with this project (construction costs and maintenance costs) are gathered. The benefits of the project (vehicle operating cost savings, accident cost savings and travel time savings) are estimated. Internal Rate of Return concept is used as a
decision rule to asses the net benefits stream of the project. According to the results, Bolu Mountain Tunnel project is economically feasible. Net Present Value of the project is positive at % 12 discount rate level and Internal Rate of Return of the project is found to be % 22.
