A research about people who do excercise and their attitude to their spare time-A sample of Kayseri
The aim of this study was to examine the leisure time behaviors of the individuals living in Kayseri and motives that effect the individuals participation to leisure activities and compare these factors with respect to some variables.
254 male (49.3%) and 261 female (50.7%) totally 515 individual who are member of health and fitness clubs in Kayseri participated to this study voluntarily.
Leisure Motivation Questionnaire (LMQ) was used to determine the motivational factors on leisure activities participation. The scale consists of 5 sub-dimension and 28 items. Participants were asked to rate the each item on 5 point Likert type scale (1=strongly disagree and 5= strongly agree).
Cronbach alpha method was used to test the internal consistency of the scale. The internal consistency of the scale was ranged from .60 ( identified/ introjected) to .73 (to experience stimulation) .Internal consistency of the scale was .77.
Principle component factor analyses were used to test the factor structure of the scale. Varimax rotation analysis were also used to test the factorial validity.
Independent samples t-test were used to test the difference with regard to gender and marital status in all 5 sub-dimension. Analysis indicated a significant difference with regard to gender in “amotivation” and “to know and to accomplish” sub-dimension and also there was a statistical difference according to the marital status in “external regulation” sub-dimension.
ANOVA analysis specified a statistical mean difference according to the occupational status both “amotivation” and “external regulation” dimension. In addition to there is astatistical difference according to the income in “amotivation” and “to know and to accomplish”sub-dimension. Tukey HSD analysis were used to test the which group were different from the other.
According to the results of this study “to experience stimulation” “to know and to accomplish” and “identified/ introjected” were the three most important factors that effect the leisure activities participation.
