Comparison married and divorced people according to the marital adjustment and sexism

Marriage is by society accepted a legal relation between man and woman which provides reciprocal solidarity and brings the sexual needs to satisfaction. Harmony in marriage, sexism and gender roles can have effects on pleasure provided from marriage.

This study compares married, in process of being divorced and divorced people from the perspective of marital adjustment and sexism and examines the effects of sexism and gender roles on marital adjustment.

The data of the study were collected by using ‘Marital Adjustment Scale’, ‘Ambivalent Sexism Scale’ and ‘Bem Sex Role Inventory-Short Form’.

The study was conducted among 242 inviduals.

Findings of the study can be summarized as follows:

The level of marital adjustment by married people is higher than the level of marital adjustment by in the process of being divorced and divorced people. The level of marital adjustment by married women is higher than the level of marital adjustment by in the process of being divorced and divorced women. The level of marital adjustment by married men is higher than the level of marital adjustment by in the process of being divorced and divorced men. Marital adjustment of men with low rank of hostile sexism is higher than marital adjustment of men with high rank of hostile sexism. Men with low rank of hostile sexism gave higher marital adjustment than women with low rank of hostile sexism. By women in the process of being divorced marital adjustment increases with growing marriage age. By married men marital adjustment decreases with increasing hostile sexism, with the increasing femininity by men increases marital adjustment as well. The variables which affected marital adjustment best were employment, form of marriage, femininity, educational background and duration of marriage.
