Comparison of elite turkish swimmers and finswimmers physical and physiological parameters]

In this research, we studied athletes who have reached elite performing stage in swimming and finswimming. Our aim was to compare the differences and similarities on physical and physiological parameters of this two different branches.

We have compared with 8 elite men swimmers and 8 elite men finswimmers. All swimmers were tested for length, body mass, skinfold thickness, diameter, circumference, aerobic performance, anaerobic performance, respiratory parameters and flexibility.

There were no significant differences on the test in height, stroke length, sitting height, feet length, chest circumference (inspiration), chest circumference (expiration), calf circumference, ankle circumference, ankle diameter and knee diameter.

Within for; weight, quadriceps circumference, knee circumference, biceps circumference, fat mass, lean body mass, vital capacity (VC), % vital capacity (%VC) parameters significant differences at p< 0,05 level , for shoulder circumference at p< 0,01 level differences.

As a result there were no significant differences between swimmers and finswimmers for most physical and physiological parameters however in circumferences, body fat mass, respiratory parameters there were significant differences
