Evaluation of cardiovascular risk profiles of soccer players who relinquished after professionally played

By admin

Today the convenience due to modern life style and technological developments make people to be more inactive everday. This less inactivity has cioned a name called Hypokinetic Disease and has now become one the most deadly group of diseases. Cardiovascular diseases are leading the group.
The aim of this study was to investigate general health status and cardiovascular risk profiles of soccer players who stopped active playing with consideration of cigarettes smoking factor.
In the study 80 male aged between 45-50 soccer players who professionnally played at least 10 years and 40 individuals as control group were included. Personel details of subjects were obtained from personel detail forms. Six groups were allocated in the study. 1. group non-smokers control group, 2. group smokers control group, 3. stopped sports and non-smokers, 4. stopped sports smokers, 5. continue to sports and non-smokers and 6. group continue to sports and smokers. Each group consisted of 20 persons.
Body mass indexes, waist/hip ratio, sistolic and diastolic blood pressures, heart pulse rate, exercise time, work load (MET) values, what percentage of target heart rate reached, cardiovascular parameters (RV, LVEDD, LVESD, LVEF, IVS, PW, LA, LVKI), blood values (glucose, creatin, trigliserid, toral colesterol, LDL, HDL, AST, ALT, GGT) and respiratory functions of groups included in the study were determined and compared.
In conlusion, the rates of exercise times, creatin values, diastolic blood pressure, MET values, left atrium thickness (LA), FEV1 and FEV1/FVC were significantly different between some groups analysed using One Way ANOVA test (p<0,05 ve p<0,01). Between remaining physiological variables there was no statistically significant differences.
In literature search, although there were several studies professional soccer players participated in in terms of blood parameters, studies into cardiovascular properties and respiratory functions are scarce. Therefore we aimed to contribute both anticipated scientific studies and trainers and sportmen/sportwomen .
