Performance evaluation of a existing rc structure according to Turkish Seismic Design Code 2007

In this study, after presenting a short overview of basic concepts of the new version of the Turkish Seismic Design Code an existing building in Istanbul, which was built before 1980, is investigated by using the analysing methods given in the 2007 version of the Turkish Seismic Design Code (TSDC’07). The building has experienced the 1999 Kocaeli Earthquake with the magnitude of 7.1 and did not experince any damages.

For seismic analysis of the existing building, Equivalent Seismic Lateral Load Method was used. As a result of this investigation, a decision was made about the life safety performance of the building. Sap 2000 was used for 3D modelling and analysing of structure. Bending capacities of beams were calculated by a program which coded by Associate Professor Dr. ZORBOZAN while bending capacities of columns were calculated with programmes which coded by Prof. Dr. ERSOY. Bending capacities of shear walls were calculated by using BIAXIAL program. .

Linear elastic method was used to determine the performance level of columns, beams and shear walls as marked in Turkish Seismic Design Code- Part 7., The performance level is given by created excel forms.
