In this work the9 story ‘La Venus d’Ille’ by the XIXth century author Prosper
Merimee has been examined within the context of research methods presented by
narratology and semiotics. For this aim, the narrative techniques and discourse
characteristics that constitute the story have been laid out. Under the guidance of the
scientifıc method? the aim of our examination oriented at describing the superfıcial
and deep structure of the story is to shed light on the functions undertaken by
narrative techniques within the semantic universe of the literary text
