the evaulation of sports habits and being exposed to violence for students who attend to boarding school (YİBO) in samsun

The purpose of this study was to determine some socio-demographic characteristics, sports habits and suffering from being exposed to violence of the students of YİBO (Boarding School) (n=843) in Samsun, in 2007-2008 academic year.

In total there are 4018 students studying in 18 regional boarding primary education schools in Samsun and 843 students in 5 regional boarding primary education schools selected by stratified sampling method have been involved in this research.

The questionnaire was done to determine exposed to violence under observation and sex, class level, presence of brothers/sisters in regional boarding primary education school, their parents marital situation, jobs and education levels, socio-demographic chracteristics which include socioeconomic situations of their families, whether they play in any club or not, their branches, frequency of sporting, doing sports situations which include their participation of out of lesson exercises, the reasons of why some students don’t participate in the out of exercises, weekend activities when they stay at the pension and at holidays were recorded.

Obtained data had been evaluated with the version of SPSS 10.0. The averages is given middle sized (minimum-maximum) and arhythmetic average and the standard error is given (SEM). Chi-square test and Fisher’s definite test was used for the statistical analyze method. The statistical relation level is p<0.05.

The results of the analyze revealed that there were no statistically difference between volunteers’s parents marital situations, parents educational levels, their family constitutions, their residence places, their sibling numbers who attend regional boarding primary education school, their mothers being alive and being exposed to violence (p>0.05). There were statistically significant differences between their sex, situation of doing sports, participating situations of out of lesson exercises and their fathers being alive (p<0.05).
