The production of al based composites reinforced with B4C by powder metallurgy
Metal matrix composites(MMC) have been used commercially in automotiv market for nearly 20 years. The aim of using this materials is commercially to have many significant properties. In this mean, MMCs are being considered as a group of new advanced materials for its high strength, high specific modulus, low co-efficient of thermal expansion and good wear resistance properties.
Aluminium metal matrix composites(Al-MMCs) refer to the class of light weight and high performance aluminium centric material systems. In the last few years, Al-MMCs have been unilized in high-tech structural and functional applications, including aerospace, defense, automotive, and thermal management areas.
In this study, Al based composites reinforced with B4C were produced by powder metallurgy method. The amount of reseach that has been done when compared to other reinforcement types(SiC, Al2O3, TiC) and Turkey’s serious potential of boron reserves has been very effetive in determiniy the reinforcement as boron carbide.
Within this work, the optimization of parameter, that are considered using powder metallurgy production route of aluminium matrix boron carbide composites is aimed.
